Is a Farm to Vase Floral Bouquet CSA Right for Me?

It’s understandable to have a few questions about whether a CSA would be a good option for you. Kudos to you for doing the research before making a purchase! We hope this quiz will provide some clarity and help you make an informed decision.

Let’s get started!

  • IS THE RELATIONSHIP TO THE ACTUAL FARMER IMPORTANT TO YOU? (DO YOU WANT TO KNOW AND SUPPORT A LOCAL FARMER?

CSA members are directly investing in the farm and become partners by helping to cover the inputs required to sustainably grow the flowers you get to enjoy. Their motivation for supporting the farm is just as much about having the back of the local farmer as it is about getting the full financial value of the share.

And this relationship goes both ways: When you join a CSA, your farmer will work to cultivate a connection with you. You will know exactly where your flowers come from and the crazy farmers who grow them!

There’s something rewarding about knowing you are doing your part to support a local farmer, whose hand you can shake and face you can see.

We try to add value to your life by teaching you about the story of growing flowers and providing opportunities to delight in them. You share the risks (unpredictable weather) and beautiful rewards (bouquets) of our business, strengthening the relationship you have with your flowers and your local community.

 So, where do you fall?

A) Yes, I care about knowing and supporting my local farmer.

B) No, it doesn’t really matter to me.

  • DO YOU VALUE HIGH-QUALITY, LOCALLY AND SUSTAINABLY GROWN FLOWERS?

Nearly 80% of flowers sold in the US are imported from other countries, so the ‘fresh’ bouquet you picked up from the local grocery store was subjected to high doses of chemicals during their growth period and is actually almost a week old, traveling thousands of miles without a water source. In addition, they are showered with excessive amounts of insecticides to guarantee customs clearance.

So every time you bury your nose in your grocery store bouquet, you are inhaling all of those chemicals!

Our flowers are grown right here in our community, by farmers who care about you and our community.  Our desire is to live in an intentional manner that is respectful of the earth and all that call it home. We follow sustainable and organic practices, so no harmful chemicals will ever touch our flowers or enter your home. Our farm is small enough that we can give each flower individual attention to help it reach its full potential, and each bouquet is harvested at its peak on the day you receive it to ensure the longest possible lasting flowers. Plus you can feel good about supporting local business and keeping your spending dollar right here in our town.

A) Yes, keeping chemicals out of my home and decreasing my carbon footprint on this earth matter to me.

B) No, I’m not concerned about the health of my family or our planet.

  • WOULD YOU ENJOY A HIGHER LEVEL OF HAPPINESS?

Most people are aware that flowers are a beautiful addition to any environment, but did you know that there is scientific proof that flowers in the home provide a measurable increase in happiness levels and decrease in anxiety, depression and stress? They also play a huge role in improving cognitive processes and problem solving, so keeping a bouquet on your work desk is a great way to get more done.

Gifting bouquets to a loved one is quite simply one of the kindest things you can do to enhance their overall health and well being. But what’s really interesting is you can buy flowers for yourself and get the same benefits—they don’t have to be gifted to experience the improvements. In fact, those who buy flowers for themselves report feeling more independent and have a greater sense of confidence and overall satisfaction in life.

A) Yep, I’m all about implementing beautiful ways to keep my family and myself happy and healthy!

B) No, I’m not concerned about my happiness or health.

  • COULD YOU BENEFIT FROM SIMPLE WAYS TO BRIGHTEN UP YOUR HOME?

A bouquet of flowers is one of the easiest and simplest ways to transform a room. Their appealing display of color, sweet aroma wafting in the air and the delicate form of each petal creates beauty in any room and sends a welcoming message to all who see them. They will cheerily greet you after a long day’s work and will be the first thing your guests notice when they come to visit!

They are also an instant pick-me-up for a ho-hum space and breathe fresh life into a static decor. Strategically placing flowers in a room is a well-known interior designer’s trick to draw attention away from uninteresting room features as well.

A) Oh yeah, I’m all about adding delight to my life!

B) No, I don’t care much for brightening my decor.

  • ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A "DEAL"? ARE YOU COMPARING CSA PRICES TO GROCERY STORE FLOWERS?

People who fully embrace the CSA model don’t look for their membership to be a “deal” or a bargain. It is absolutely understandable to ask, “how much does it cost?” and then weigh the pros and cons. Supporting a CSA financially, however, is not just about doing a cost analysis of each bouquet you receive and comparing it to what you’d pay at Wegmans or Tops.

You simply won’t find the same quality of flowers in your local grocery store, so it’s not an apples-to-apples comparison. Our flowers have added value not only because they are high quality, sustainably grown and the freshest possible you can receive, but because each flower tells a story.

Not just a story about how it was raised, harvested, or what struggles it faced on the way to your home.

Not just the story of your farmer and how you are helping them live out their calling to the land.

But every flower is also telling your unfolding story.

They showcase your journey in your quest to bring delight and happiness to your home, in a way that is healthy for you and for our planet—something you can be proud of. This is not something you can get from the local grocery store.

A) Yes, I want the whole CSA Experience!

B) No, I’d really prefer to get the best deal possible even if I have to sacrifice quality.

So, how did you do? Did you pass the quiz?

Remember, CSA is just one model out there for getting flowers to your home and loved ones. It may not be right for you, and that’s ok. But for those who value the story, the journey, the quality of flowers and the farmer relationship, it can be a great option that can make a big difference.
